12u Coach

I have been a youth baseball coach since 2010.  I have coached many different Mason community-based travel teams in the Mid-Michigan PONY League at the U8 to U10 age levels.  In 2014, our Mason team won the PONY North Zone-East Division Mustang (U10) Championship in Grand Ledge, MI, and advanced to Lafayette, IN, to play in the North Zone Championship.

I was an assistant coach in the 2015 and 2016 seasons for U11 USSSA travel teams from Eric Munson Baseball (EMB Gold) in Dubuque, Iowa.  EMB is a highly successful baseball academy in the Midwest that was recently selected by USA Baseball as an affiliate in its youth development program.

In 2018, I was one of four coaches who started and coached Crossroads Baseball, a U14 USSSA travel team based in Mid-Michigan.  I was a volunteer assistant coach for the Mason High School junior varsity baseball team in 2019.

My primary motivation for coaching is to share my love for baseball with young athletes.   I enjoy teaching the fundamental skills of baseball, and then helping these athletes to utilize these skills in competitive situations.  I utilize a positive coaching style to focus on a player's strengths more than their weaknesses. I also emphasize characteristics like effort, attitude, and positive body language that a player, even on his worst day, can always control.

I was a NCAA student-athlete at Rutgers University where I was on the Men’s Heavyweight Rowing Team from 1993-1996.  I earned two varsity letters and the team award for most improved oarsman as a sophomore. My love for coaching started at Michigan State University where I was the head coach of the Men's Crew Club from 1997-1999.  In this position, I directed the coaching and organizational activities of the Men’s Crew Club who competed in intercollegiate races all over the country.
